Iperbole wireless
What
Do you use free wi-fi internet in Bologna? Today it's easy: the Iperbole Wireless service allows free access to internet in several areas of town.
The Bologna Municipality, supported by ITC private partners, is in fact providing a new service to its telematic community: the Iperbole Wireless network, a new way to use internet easily and everywhere.
The project has been realized with the support of G. Marconi S.p.A. Laboratories.
The contents of the service are provided in collaboration with the University of Bologna.
Who
- Users already subscribed to the Iperbole Civic Network: they can take part in the Iperbole Wireless service simply by using the same access codes enabling them to enter the Civic Network, at the url: http://www.comune.bologna.it/iperboliani/abilitazione_wifi.php
- Users of the Bologna University (students, teachers, technical-administrative staff).
- Employees of Bologna Municipality.
- IAnyone who owns an Italian mobile phone number. The registration has to be done at the related web page, then users will receive a SMS with a temporary password for navigation.
When
In the areas installed by GooNet S.r.l., two different networks are available: "Iperbole Wireless" and "GooMobile":
- the "Iperbole Wireless" network is reserved to the Iperbole users and to students, teachers and staff of the Bologna University
- the "GooMobile" network is reserved to anyone who uses the service by receiving his/her credentials via SMS
Conditions to use the service:
- Iperbole users: 3 hours/day free on the Iperbole Wireless network
- Students, teachers and staff of the Bologna University: 3 hours/day free on the Iperbole Wireless network
- Owners of an Italian phone number (+39): 3 hours/day free on the GooMobile network
Users not included in the list above, and users who have already consumed their 3 hours free credit:
- € 3.00 for 24 hours of navigation (credit to be used by 31/12/2011)
- € 15.00 / month for the unlimited use of the service (flat) on the GooMobile network
The 3 hours free credit can be used consecutively or in different sessions.
How
The user has at his disposal a three hours access credit every day, and he can spend it once or in different sessions: for example you can use Iperbole Wireless for successive 3 hours or for 3 time for only 1 hour.
Private Partners and Sponsors
The Municipality of Bologna together with Goonet S.r.l. signed an agreement for the development of Iperbole Wireless with the goal to progressively improve the technological infrastructure and the wi-fi coverage extension within the urban area. The agreement lasts 6 years.
Goonet commits itself to ensure the correct functioning of Iperbole Wireless (maintenance, technological updates, connection), granting a 2.4 GHz coverage.
All the investment and management costs related to the wireless infrastructure are charged to Goonet S.r.l. The Municipality is only responsible for the powering costs.
Moreover, other private sponsorships are ongoing in order to set up further wi-fi areas.
